§ Sir C. Osborneasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many murders were known to the police in the first five months of 1967; and what were the numbers for the same period for each of the preceding five years, calculated on the same basis.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsAs was explained to the hon. Member in reply to Questions on 9th March and 19th May, 1966, it is the established practice to adjust the statistics of offences of murder known to the police to exclude offences initially recorded as murder but later found not to be murder, and these figures are compiled for complete years only.
The figures for 1966 and the preceding ten years were given in reply to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Oxford on 14th June, 1967.—[Vol. 748, c. 99.]
