HC Deb 15 June 1967 vol 748 c118W
55. Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what help in the past week has been provided by Her Majesty's Consulate in Alexandria for British nationals.

Mr. William Rodgers

The Consulate-General was wrecked on 6th June and its records were destroyed. In addition, the Consul-General was denied normal access to the port and all normal co-operation by the United Arab Republic authorities.

As a result, his ability to help British nationals was reduced to a minimum.

Nevertheless, a party was organised by the Consulate-General and joined the main group of British evacuees who are now on their way home.
