§ Mr. J. P. W. MallalieuSome 5,000 staff in the Board of Trade provide services designed to promote the safety and regularity of air travel. Of this number, at 1st January, 1967, 169 were directly engaged in the licensing of aircrews, certification of the competence of operators, accidents prevention and work connected with airworthiness and aircraft performance. The corresponding figures for 1965 and 1966 were 171 and 169 respectively.
