HL Deb 08 June 1967 vol 283 c640WA
LORD BARNBY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

With regard to the latest figures available of imports into the United Kingdom, what was the average recorded price per pound of (a) Copper; (b) Tobacco, in respectively 1964, 1965 and 1966.

LORD WALSTON

Average recorded prices per pound of copper and tobacco imported are not available. The average values per pound (c.i.f.) of imports from all sources were:

1964 1965 1966
s. d. s. d. s. d.
Unwrought copper (excluding alloys) 2 2 7 3
Unmanufactured tobacco 5 7 5 7 6

Changes from year to year in these average values per pound are not a fair measure of price changes since, within these broad descriptions, the proportion of different qualities of goods imported changes from year to year.

House adjourned at three minutes before nine o'clock.
