§ Mr. Bruce-Gardyneasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will specify the contributions of the increase in manufacturing output, and the decline in manufacturing employment, respectively, to the achievement of the 3½ per cent. rise in output per operative hour in manufacturing between the first quarter of 1966 and the first quarter of 1967.
§ Mr. CallaghanThe change in output per operative hour in manufacturing industry was the result of a fall of 1½per cent. in average hours worked, of 2½ per cent. in output, and of 4 per cent. in the number of operatives.
