HL Deb 27 July 1967 vol 285 cc1331-4WA
LORD FERRIER

asked Her Majesty's Government

Whether they will:—

(1) Request the Authorities again to review the signposting for pedestrians

Arbroath on the A92 and between Coupar Angus and Forfar on the A94.

LORD HUGHES

Traffic censuses on trunk and classified roads are not taken annually, and the details requested are available for A92 only from the trunk road censuses of 1961 and 1965, and for A94 from the classified road census of 1963. The information available is as follows: —

trains between Gloucester Road Tube station and the West London Air Terminal and vice versa;

(2) Request the London Passenger Transport Board to consider moving the bus stop now near Grenville Place 100/200 yards further west so that it is immediately adjacent to the pedestrian entrance from/exit to the Air Terminal;

(3) Urge the West London Air Terminal management to complete the escalator to the "Check-in" area by installing the flight between the first and second floors.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF PUBLIC BUILDING AND WORKS: (LORD WINTERBOTTOM)

The noble Lord will understand that these are not matters in which Her Majesty's Government have direct responsibility. However, following an earlier suggestion from the noble Lord my right honourable friend the Minister of Transport has invited the London Transport Board and British European Airways to consider installing, in Gloucester Road Underground Station and at the West London Air Terminal respectively, pedestrian signposting of the same improved type as is at present being designed for installation on, among other places, the street between these two points.

The location of bus stops in London is a matter for the independent Metropolitan Traffic Commissioner: and my right honourable friend will draw the noble Lord's Question to the attention of the Commissioner and the London Transport Board. She will also invite her right honourable friend the President of the Board of Trade to bring to the notice of British European Airways the noble Lord's Question about an escalator in the West London Air Terminal.

House adjourned for the Summer Recess at three minutes before eight o'clock.
