HL Deb 27 July 1967 vol 285 c1330WA
THE EARL OF MANSFIELD

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will instruct their representative at the United Nations to raise in that body the question of the continued use against Royalist Forces and civilians in the Yemen of poison gas bombs by the Egyptian Air Force, and ask that body to pass a resolution condemning this inhuman and barbaric type of warfare.

LORD CHALFONT

As I said in reply to a Question by the noble Viscount, Lord Masereene and Ferrard, on June 27, Her Majesty's Government are doubtful whether it would be useful to raise this matter in the United Nations at present. They have, however, made it clear that they deplore this use of poison gas. They are considering what action can be taken to put an end to this breach of generally accepted rules of conduct, and will be consulting with other Governments as to the best means of achieving this.
