§ 20. Mr. John Hallasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what statutory powers he proposes to seek to increase the penalty for cutting down trees 75W without authority and to ensure that local authorities have power to require replanting where appropriate.
§ Mr. WilleyThe Civic Amenities Bill, now passing through its last stages in Parliament, provides for both these additional powers. When the Bill becomes law the fine for the unlawful felling of any tree which is protected by a preservation order will be increased fivefold, to £250 The Bill will also empower local authorities to require the replacement of any tree, other than a tree in a woodland, felled in contravention of an order.
