§ Mr. Ashleyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what details he has been given by the Sudan Government of their decision to sever relations with the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. George BrownIn the Sudan Government's note breaking off diplomatic relations it was stated that this would not affect economic, commercial, consular or cultural relations and affirmed that British subjects would enjoy the same treatment as before. There have subsequently been Sudanese statements and actions which appear contrary to this, but I hope that serious damage to the economic and commercial interests of both parties can be avoided.
