§ 51. Sir Clive Bossomasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he is taking to find and approve a more reliable form of breath-testing equipment, in view of the false positive indications in eight out of 33 cases during tests at the Home Office Central Research Establishment, Aldermaston; and what arrangements will be made to ensure that innocent drivers will not be required to go to police 128W stations for blood or urine tests because they are wrongfully alleged to have blood-alcohol levels in excess of 80 milligrams-100 milligrams.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsIt is open to a manufacturer at any time to submit a breath testing device for my approval, which will be given to any device that reaches a satisfactory standard of reliability. A person taken to a police station after a breath test giving a positive indication will be offered a second breath test there before being required to provide a specimen of blood or urine for a laboratory test.
