§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of the concern felt by the council of the London Borough of Newham at the attempts being made to attract industry away from this area, resulting in more unemployment and higher rents and rates to the local inhabitants; and whether he will agree to discuss this problem with representatives of the borough council and their four Members of Parliament.
§ Mr. DarlingI am aware that concern has been expressed locally. I am, of course, always ready to discuss problems of this kind but Greater London is an area of labour shortage while both the development areas and the new and expanded towns that are being built to re-house Londoners need employment.
