§ Mr. Francis Noel-Bakerasked the Minister of Transport if she will give a general direction to British Railways to introduce, as soon as possible, electronic signalling that will directly control locomotives travelling at high speeds.
§ Mr. John MorrisA general direction would not be appropriate. The Railways Board is developing an electronic system of continuous communication with moving trains, incorporating speed supervision at very high speed. If they wish to bring this system into service, my right hon. Friend will gladly consider what they propose.
