asked the Prime Minister what official histories are at present in course of preparation or planned.

The Prime Minister

The following are the volumes in the official histories of the Second World War which are in course of preparation.

Military Series:

  • Grand Strategy: Volumes I and IV.
  • Mediterranean and Middle East: Volumes V and VI.
  • Victory in the West: Volume II.
  • War Against Japan: Volume V.

Civil Series:

  • Oil.

Medical Series:

  • Medical Services in War.
  • Medical Statistics (Fighting and Civilian Services).

A full version of British Foreign Policy in the Second World War is in course of revision (an abridgement was published in 1962).

Proposals for the new series of official histories of peacetime events will be submitted in due course to the inter-party group of Privy Counsellors, the membership of which I announced in answer to a Question by my hon.
