§ Mr. Stodartasked the Secretary of State for Scotland why there are fewer traffic signals in St. John's Road, Corstorphine, on the main road from Edinburgh to Glasgow, compared with those in Musselburgh on the road from Edinburgh to Berwick-on-Tweed; and when this situation will be remedied.
§ Mr. RossThis is not a valid comparison: there are significant differences between the two routes, and in the traffic conditions on them. As it happens, however, I have approved in principle recent proposals by Edinburgh Corporation for a linked signal scheme, involving two junction installations and a controlled 35W pedestrian crossing, in St. John's Road, Corstorphine. The statutory procedure for establishing the pedestrian crossings is being carried out.
