HC Deb 05 July 1967 vol 749 cc267-8W
Mr. Crawshaw

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will make a statement on the future of the Industrial Civil Defence Service.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

Following discussions with both sides of industry and commerce, my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland and I have decided to reorganise the Industrial Civil Defence Service to take account of recent changes in local authority civil defence arrangements and in the Civil Defence Corps.

The organisation of the Service will be simplified. Its main purpose will continue to be to help managements in directing life-saving operations and in the control and deployment of their resources in a war emergency. Its members will also supplement the peace-time arrangements of industrial and commercial estab- lishments for first aid, fire-fighting and rescue. Detailed guidance about the changes will shortly be issued to managements.
