HC Deb 04 July 1967 vol 749 c242W
Miss Harvie Anderson

asked the Minister of Transport if she will give a general direction to British Railways to cease the charge of 2s. per mile for reserved carriages for disabled persons travelling at off-peak periods.

Mrs. Castle

Although I sympathise with the problems of disabled people it would not be right to give a general direction, since it is not the responsibility of the Railways Board to provide travel concessions on social grounds. British Railways sleeper services of course provide a useful facility for those who need a reserved compartment.
