§ Mr. FernyhoughOn 9th January, 1967, the total number of persons registered as unemployed on Merseyside was 23,257 of whom 1,523 were temporarily stopped. These figures were 3,783 and 1,156 higher, respectively, than on 12th December, 1966.

§ Mr. FernyhoughOur local officers are doing all they can to help those unemployed to find other work and to provide training facilities where appropriate. As my hon. Friend knows, Merseyside is a Development Area and is eligible for the various forms of assistance which are available under the Local Employment Acts and the Industrial Development Act, 1966.
