HC Deb 25 January 1967 vol 739 cc307-8W
Mr. Alan Lee Williams

asked the First Secretary of State and Secretary of State for Economic Affairs what is the number of price reductions following the removal of the import surcharge; and whether he is satisfied with the position.

Mr. Frederick Lee

As explained by my hon. Friend, the then Minister of State, in reply to a Question by my hon. Friend the. Member for Woolwich, West (Mr. Hamling) on 1st December, we do not receive notifications of price reductions and I am therefore unable to give

total amount of capital debt written off, respectively.

Mr. Diamond

The following table shows, for each of the nationalised industries concerned; the amounts paid in revenue subsidies in each year to 196566; and the capital debt written off.

the precise figure for which my hon. Friend asks. We have, however, taken special steps to ensure that those mainly concerned are aware of their responsibility to reduce prices wherever possible and the prices of a number of goods, increased when the surcharge was imposed, have already come down or are expected to do so. We are continuing to keep a close watch on this matter.—[Vol. 705, c. 595.]
