HC Deb 25 January 1967 vol 739 cc261-2W
37. Sir D. Glover

asked the Minister of Transport if, in view of the high concentration of industry in Lancashire, she will now give special consideration and priority to the need for motorway construction serving that county.

Mr. Swingler

Lancashire already has 66 miles of motorway in use and 51 miles in the forward programme. My right hon. Friend will shortly be making an announcement about the next list of trunk road schemes for preparation.

38. Sir D. Glover

asked the Minister of Transport what will be the estimated total Exchequer expenditure on motorways in Lancashire in the five years ending 1970–71.

Mr. Swingler

Motorway work to a total value of over £11 million is at present in progress, and a further £66 million worth is programmed for completion by the early 1970s. All but about £3 million of this expenditure will be met from the Exchequer, but I cannot forecast how much will fall in the period mentioned.
