HC Deb 25 January 1967 vol 739 c276W
71. Sir C. Osborne

asked the Minister of Transport, in view of the increase in road accidents, if she will consider enforcing full eyesight tests on all motorists over 75 years of age, and an independent medical test on all drivers over 80 years of age.

Mr. John Morris

Our accident statistics suggest that drivers over 70 are involved in injury accidents less often than drivers under 50, and less than half as often as drivers under 20. We doubt whether special eyesight or medical tests for, respectively, the few drivers over 75 and 80 would really help to reduce road accidents.
