Mr. John Wells

asked the Minister of Overseas Development what economies have been made in his Department since 20th July, 1966 in expenditure on hospitality and official entertainment.

Mr. Bottomley

Expenditure incurred by the Ministry on entertaining since the 20th July, 1966, has been somewhat higher than in the previous six months, but this is mainly due to commitments entered into before that date. Strict economy is being practised and instructions to this effect have been issued.
