HC Deb 25 January 1967 vol 739 cc280-1W
100. Mr. Burden

asked the Minister of Aviation what steps are being taken to ensure that design teams in the British aircraft industry are engaged in planning for the future development of British commercial aircraft types.

Mr. Stonehouse

Planning for the future development of British commercial aircraft types is primarily a matter for the firms in the light of their commercial judgment and market surveys. All the principal firms in the industry have within their organisations people continuously employed on exploring the range of possibilities for such developments. My Department keeps in close touch with these activities both through informal contacts and through the Transport Aircraft Requirements Committee. This is an advisory body consisting of senior representatives of the Government, industry and airlines which meets regularly to discuss promising new transport projects.
