HC Deb 25 January 1967 vol 739 cc295-6W
Mr. G. Campbell

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will now authorise a bypass of Conon Bridge and Maryburgh, on the A9 trunk road, with a new bridge sited to avoid flooding of the kind which halted traffic for about 36 hours in December last.

Mr. Ross

This was the first time for many years that traffic on this stretch of road was interrupted by floods. A bypass would be a costly scheme, and I cannot yet find a place for it in the road programme. The existing Bailey bridge is reaching the end of its useful life, however, and I propose shortly to replace it with a permanent bridge which will eliminate one-way traffic working.
