§ Mr. G. Campbellasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will now authorise a bypass of Conon Bridge and Maryburgh, on the A9 trunk road, with a new bridge sited to avoid flooding of the kind which halted traffic for about 36 hours in December last.
296W
§ Mr. RossThis was the first time for many years that traffic on this stretch of road was interrupted by floods. A bypass would be a costly scheme, and I cannot yet find a place for it in the road programme. The existing Bailey bridge is reaching the end of its useful life, however, and I propose shortly to replace it with a permanent bridge which will eliminate one-way traffic working.
