§ Mr. Wingfield Digbyasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government on how many occasions during the last year he has used the powers of Section 22 of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1962, to make a planning decision himself to the exclusion of the local planning authority; and in how many cases this was done in 1963.
§ Mr. MacCollPrecise figures are not available, but almost every called-in application gives rise to a local inquiry. In 1963, the number of inquiries into called-in applications was 217; in 1966 it was 214. These include planning applications made by local planning authorities wishing to carry out development substantially out of accord with the provisions of the development plan for the area.
