Campbellasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs what action the Government are taking, or propose to take, upon the resolution on Fiji, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, calling upon the United Kingdom to hold a general election there, fix an early date for independence and abolish all discriminatory measures.
§ Mrs. HartNone. The U.K. voted against this Resolution. As the hon. Member will be aware, a new Constitution came into force in Fiji in September 1966, and in October a Legislative Council was elected on a basis of universal suffrage.
