asked the Postmaster-General how many telephones per thousand households there are in Wales and England, respectively.

Separate figures are not kept for Wales with which the Border Counties are associated in our Wales and Border Counties Directorate. The current estimates of residential telephone connections per thousand households in that Directorate and in the English Post Office Regions arePost Office Directorate, Wales and Border Counties—150. Post Office Regions, England—256.

The corresponding figures for the year of the last general census (1961) were 101 and 188 respectively.
