HL Deb 27 February 1967 vol 280 c993WA
LORD TALBOT DE MALAHIDE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

  1. (1) The number of store cattle imported into the United Kingdom from the Republic of Ireland and their average price per cwt. Between—
    1. (a) 1st July and 31st December, 1966,
    2. (b) 1st January and 30th June, 1966,
    3. (c) 1st July and 31st December, 1965;
  2. (2) the amount of carcase beef imported into the United Kingdom from the Republic of Ireland between—

IMPORTS INTO THE U.K. FROM THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND
Imported Store Cattle
Numbers Head Average Price per Head Imported Beef and Veal Tons Imported Carcase Lamb Tons
£
July, 1966—December, 1966 179,700* 67.7 25,320 8,683
July, 1966—June, 1966 216,157 68.3 15,546 2,555
July, 1965—December, 1965 199,480 73.0 19,125 6,643
* It is believed that a substantial proportion of the fat cattle imported between July, 1966 and December, 1966 were retained for further fattening in the U.K. To this extent, the figure of store cattle imports over this period is understated.
