HC Deb 27 February 1967 vol 742 cc15-6W
98. Mr. Shinwell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what consideration the Government have given to the inclusion of Great Britain in the A.N.Z.U.S. Agreement; and what consultations have taken place with the United States of America, Australia and New Zealand.

Mr. William Rodgers

I would refer my right hon. Friend to the reply 1 gave no 20th February to the hon. Gentleman the Member for Cheltenham (Mr. Dodds-Parker). This has not been considered by the present Government nor have there been consultations with the other Governments concerned about British membership of A.N.Z.U.S., since the common defence interests of our allies and ourselves in the area are covered by other and more recent arrangements.—[Vol. 741, c.201.]
