HC Deb 23 February 1967 vol 741 cc340-1W
Mr. Kitson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what is the total amount of betting duty tax paid by on-course bookmakers up to the last available accounting date;

(2) what is the total amount of betting duty tax paid by off-course bookmakers up to the last available accounting date.

Mr. MacDermot

Receipts of the general betting duty up to 31st December, 1966, were as follows:

£'000
From on-course bookmakers 514*
From off-course bookmakers—
(a) by sale of sheets 3,184*
(b) by monthly payments 472
From totalisator operators 326
Total 4,496
* These figures contain some element of advance payment.
These payments are made monthly in arrear; receipts up to the end of December thus reflect about one month's bookmaking activity.
