asked the Minister of Labour if he will state the numbers and percentages of unemployed persons at the latest date for which the figures are available in the Welsh coalfields and also the number of vacancies there.

At 9th January, 1967, the latest date for which information is available, there were 20,700 persons registered as unemployed (representing a rate of 4.8 per cent.) at Employment Exchanges and Youth Employment Offices in the areas of the Welsh coal-fields. On 4th January, 1967, 3,827 notified vacancies remained unfilled at these offices.
