asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the purpose of the Polaris submarine depot at Coulport; what is the total cost, including roads, water supply, etc.; whether atomic missiles are to be stored there.

Mr. Healey

The Royal Naval Armament Depot at Coulport is part of the Clyde Submarine Base, which will provide support and maintenance facilities for all submarines based in the Clyde area. The total cost of the base is estimated to be about £45 million. Polaris missiles will be stored at Coulport.
