HC Deb 21 February 1967 vol 741 cc237-8W
33. Mr. Shinwell

asked the Minister of Power whether, in future appointments to the boards of nationalised industries and services, he will ensure that those appointed are in favour of the principle of nationalisation.

Mr. Marsh

I shall aim to appoint the best men available, who have the will and the capacity to make their nationalised industries succeed.

34. Mr. Shinwell

asked the Minister of Power what proposals he has for the closer integration of the fuel and power industries and services.

Mr. Marsh

I am not sure which specific point my right hon. Friend has in mind, but I have, at present, no proposals for altering the statutory basis on which the three nationalised fuel industries have been established as separate enterprises.

35. Mr. Patrick Jenkin

asked the Minister of Power whether he will introduce legislation to control, and require the provision of information about, the diversification activities of the nationalised industries for which he is responsible.

Mr. Marsh

No. The present powers are adequate.

38. Mr. J. H. Osborn

asked the Minister of Power what was the total value of plant and ancillary equipment, excluding buildings, ordered by the Gas Council, Central Electricity Generating Board and other nationalised industries for which he is responsible, respectively and in total, ordered directly or through sub-contractors and installed, erected or delivered during the year ended 31st December, 1966; and what were the value and percentage of this total supplied from overseas.

Mr. Marsh

The information asked for is not readily available, but I am asking the Chairmen of the National Coal Board and of the Electricity and Gas Councils to write to the hon. Member to give such information as they can.
