HC Deb 15 February 1967 vol 741 c126W
Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, in view of the inadequacy of the existing scope of psychiatric treatment for prisoners, if he will give details of the steps he is taking to remedy this deficiency.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

Psychiatric services for prisoners compare well with those available for the country generally, but further improvements will come from the appointment, jointly with regional hospital boards, of consultants in forensic psychiatry. Three such consultants will be appointed by May, and I hope that others will be appointed later this year.
