HC Deb 14 February 1967 vol 741 cc62-3W
Mr. Clifford Williams

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many miles of coast protection schemes have been completed by the respective river authorities in Wales and Monmouthshire; if he will state the costs of such schemes; and how many more miles of coast protection schemes are required to give protection from flooding.

Mr. John Mackie

Since these river boards were set up in 1950 they have completed some 45 miles of sea defence work and a further 5½ miles are currently under construction. The cost of these works is approximately £1.75 million. It is the responsibility of these authorities to determine the nature and extent of protection required and I cannot anticipate what further schemes they may submit for grant aid.
