HC Deb 14 February 1967 vol 741 c52W
Mr. Higgins

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what he estimates would be the yield of a gifts tax applying to all gifts over £5,000 made by an individual, at a rate of 30 per cent.

Mr. MacDermot

No estimate can be made because there is not enough information about the gifts now made and also it is impossible to foretell the effect on gifts of such a tax.
