HC Deb 09 February 1967 vol 740 cc373-4W
Mr. Alan Lee Williams

asked the Minister of Overseas Development what offer of assistance to Turkey was made by Her Majesty's Government at the meeting of the Turkish Consortium of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development held in Paris on 27th January.

Mr. Bottomley

At the recent meeting of the Turkish Consortium Her Majesty's Government pledged the sum of £2.5 million in support of Turkey's development programme for 1967. This loan, like the £3 million loan made in 1966 will be interest free of 25 years maturity and will be for the purchase of British goods and services essential to the Turkish economy.

Her Majesty's Government will, in addition, be contributing a further £1.86 million to Turkey for debt relief, and disbursements from the two project loans agreed in 1965 and 1966 are expected to total about £1.25 million.
