HC Deb 09 February 1967 vol 740 cc365-6W
Mr. John Hall

asked the Minister of Transport what representations have been made to her by the Buckinghamshire and other county councils recommending an introduction of regulations requiring motor cyclists to wear protective headwear; what reply she has sent; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. John Morris

The Road Accident Prevention Committee of the Bucks County Council has asked my right hon. Friend to reconsider the decision not to make the wearing of safety helmets compulsory. A. reply has been sent saying that she is reluctant to make the wearing of safety helmets compulsory for all when so many have accepted the need to wear them, but that she intends to continue, by propaganda, to persuade motor cyclists to wear safety helmets.
