HC Deb 09 February 1967 vol 740 c345W
43. Mr. Burden

asked the Postmaster-General what increased charges he has authorised in his Department since 1st June, 1966; and what additional revenue they are expected to bring in a full year.

Mr. Edward Short

Changes made last year were listed in the OFFICIAL REPORT on 20th July [Vol. 732, c. 654.] and in my Answer to my hon. Friend the Member for West Ham, North (Mr. Arthur Lewis) on 12th December.—[Vol. 738, c. 25.]

On 1st February the charges for telephone calls to the United States were changed. Instead of every call costing £1 per minute (15s. in the cheap period) there are now ordinary calls at 16s. 8d. per minute (12s. 6d in the cheap period): personal calls may be booked at an additional fee of 30s. (22s. 6d. in the cheap period).

The changes announced on 20th July would bring in about £20 million in a full year: the later changes do not materially affect this.
