§ 84. Mr. Biggs-Davisonasked the President of the Board of Trade what is the present level of textile imports from Malta; how this level compares with that of previous years; what request has been made by the Malta Government for an increase; and what reply was given.
§ Mr. JayMalta sent us about 890,000 pounds of yarn and a little over 1 million square yards of cloth and made-up goods in 1966. This is slightly below the 1965 figure, but higher than in any previous years. Imports from Malta are subject 307W to control under our global quota system. In common with most countries in and outside the Commonwealth, she pressed for unlimited access to this market but we were unable to agree to this.
