HC Deb 02 February 1967 vol 740 cc160-1W
Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give details of any evidence he has concerning the destination of emigrants from the United Kingdom leaving Scotland in the year to 30th June, 1966, and of the trades and professions in which they had been engaged in Scotland prior to emigration.

Mr. Ross

Precise information is not available about the destinations of overseas emigrants from Scotland, but the principal receiving countries (in descending order of numbers of emigrants) are Canada, Australia, the United States of America, New Zealand, and South Africa. I regret that the information available about the trades and professions of the emigrants is both incomplete and unreliable.

Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what estimate he has made of net emigration from Scotland in the last six months of 1966.

Mr. Ross

None. A provisional estimate will be made by the Registrar General about the end of May.
