HC Deb 21 December 1967 vol 756 cc520-1W
Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Postmaster-General to what extent Her Majesty's mails have been delayed by the illegal closure of the Suez Canal; and what has been the resulting extra cost to the Post Office.

Mr. Edward Short:

Immediately after the closure there was some delay to surface mails, but this has now been reduced. The countries most affected are those bordering on the Indian Ocean.

The extra cost to the Post Office has been about £50,000.
