HC Deb 21 December 1967 vol 756 cc517-8W
Mr. James Davidson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what would be the cost of removing the installations of Shoeburyness Range elsewhere and what is the breakdown of this cost.

Mr. Reynolds:

Possibly £25 million, as follows; but this estimate could be much affected by the conditions and facilities available at any other site.

£ million
Buildings 6.5
Ranges, towers and ancillary facilities 2.0
Barracks, married quarters and houses 4.0
Roads, paths, hardstandings, railways fences, sewerage, power and water supplies, bridges. 7.5
Sea wall 4.0
Plant, including removal of serviceable plant and installation at new site; general removal cost. 1.0

Mr. James Davidson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence why the activities at Shoeburyness Range cannot be transferred to other ranges where there would be less interference with civil flying operations.

Mr. Reynolds:

No other existing is suitable; the Shoeburyness does not interfere to any large with current flying operations.
