HC Deb 21 December 1967 vol 756 c533W
Mr. Bishop

asked the Minister of Social Security what allowance is payable for personal expenses and board and accommodation for mentally-handicapped young people in lodgings.

Mrs. Hart:

The Supplementary Benefits Commission normally meet the board and lodging charge of a mentally-handicapped person living in lodgings and provide £1 7s. 6d. a week in addition for personal expenses. Where blind or severely disabled sighted persons are training for sheltered employment, the Ministry of Labour can pay maintenance allowances during the period of training. I am sending my hon. Friend a leaflet about this.
