Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the number of medical prescriptions per head of population and the average cost per prescription in each of the past five years.

The figures for prescriptions dispensed by chemists and appliance sup-pliers under the National Health Service over the past five years are as follows:
