Mr. Oakes

asked the Attorney-General how many legal aid certificates were granted to enable mothers to take out affiliation proceedings; and what was the cost to the legal aid fund in each of the years 1965, 1966 and 1967 to date.

Figures are not available for the calendar years referred to. The number of civil aid certificates granted to enable mothers to bring affiliation proceedings in the last three financial years, and the present financial year to 30th November, and their costs, is listed below. Costs are estimated from the average amounts paid to solicitors in these cases in one month in each of the calendar years.
