§ Mr. Raphael Tuckasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what veterinary safeguards have been taken on 512W the importation of Charolais cattle for breeding.
§ Mr. Peart:Charolais cattle are being imported into this country under strict veterinary conditions and safeguards outlined in a special Order.
These animals have been submitted to extensive tests for foot-and-mouth disease and other conditions before entry and during their period of 28 days' quarantine in France. They will also be kept in quarantine in Lowestoft and London for at least 28 days, and as with previous importations all the necessary control measures will be carried out including contact with native cattle and all necessary tests.
