HC Deb 21 December 1967 vol 756 cc478-9W
Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science why he refused approval for expenditure on flood lighting all-weather pitches on the Castle Vale playing field site, which had as object the dual use of these pitches including their use after school hours throughout the year by young adults, who have no alternative facilities in this area.

Mr. Gordon Walker:

The proposal as submitted to me was primarily for school purposes and the cost considerably exceeded the amount available from the school building programme. I informed the Local Education Authority of this in July.

As I am anxious to encourage the dual use of facilities I will consider any proposal the Authority wish to make to me that are designed to achieve this end.
