HC Deb 21 December 1967 vol 756 c538W
Mr. James Davidson

asked the Minister of Transport if she will give the total number of fatal and injury traffic accidents for the latest available complete period of four weeks since the introduction of breathalyser tests, with comparable figures for the previous two years, for each of the following cities, namely Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, London (Metropolitan Police district), Cardiff and Swansea.

Mr. Carmichael:

Figures for four-week periods are not available and the following information refers to casualties in the month of November each year. I must also emphasise that accident figures for individual local police forces are subject to quite violent fluctuations, particularly over short periods of time, and chance effects can be substantial, especially when numbers are relatively small.

Mrs. Castle:

I have no reason to think that the provisions thus far of the Transport Bill will lead to any significant net changes in the numbers either of departmental or local authority employees.
