HC Deb 14 December 1967 vol 756 c230W
Mr. Leslie Huckfield

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs whether he will take proceedings against those responsible for the advertisements carried by the Birmingham Mailon Wednesday 6th December, 1967, on behalf of the illegal regime in Rhodesia, which appealed for skilled citizens of this country to emigrate and further the advancement of the Rhodesian economy, on the grounds that the advertisements gave aid and comfort to the régime.

The Attorney-General:

My right hon. Friend, the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs, has asked me to answer this Question.

I have at present no evidence that any criminal offence has been committed by reason of the publication of these advertisements. If, however, breaches of our sanctions legislation, or other offences, were to flow from this, or a similar publication, consideration would be given to prosecuting those responsible for such breaches or other offences.
