HC Deb 14 December 1967 vol 756 cc231-2W
Mr. Oakes

asked the Minister of Health what plans he has for the development of renal transplantation under the National Health Service.

Mr. K. Robinson:

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland and I have been advised by the Medical Research Council that it would now be reasonable to extend renal transplantation work beyond those centres that have pioneered the way, but that support should still be confined to selected centres where there is an assurance of sufficient and continuing experience in the management of patients and where adequate supporting services are available. My right hon. Friend and I have accepted this advice, and have accordingly appointed an Advisory Committee on Renal Transplantation with the following terms of reference and membership: To advise the Minister of Health and the Secretary of State for Scotland on the development of renal transplantation under the National Health Service, and in particular to examine and advise upon any proposals to establish renal transplantation units at new centres ".
